In the early years of his campaign Matalik sought publicity aggressively and was quite successful as late as the 1970's. Articles were published about him in the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, New York Post, Miami News and numerous other papers. He campaigned all over the US, Canada and South America sometimes with an anti-authoritarian lack of regard for speed limits. In 1964 he was stopped on the Ohio Turnpike for driving approximately 105 miles an hour. Rather than pay the speeding fine he spent 30 days in Lorain County jail. The day he was released he visited Dan Miller at the Chronicle Telegram in Elyria, Ohio, who wrote up a story based on his interview.
"'The President could learn an awful lot by going to jail himself,' Matalik declared yesterday, showing a petition in which 15 county jail inmates urged society to release them since society is to blame for their being jailed in the first place."

Matalik's background as a farmer informs his belief that people should, above all, be in harmony with nature. "NATURE'S LAW IS; A FARMER'S FOOD IS NOT MEANT TO GO OFF HIS [TO] OTHER LANDS!! THAT AFTER FOOD IS EATEN, FOOD TURNS TO FERTILIZER, MUST GO BACK WHERE THE ORIGINAL FOOD COMES FROM!! TO KEEP THE LAND PRODUCING RIGHT!! $TUPID!!"
For Matalik, overpopulation creates an imbalance in nature by displacing water from the earth's water table. "TO GET TO THE POINT, ADD 5 BILLION PEOPLE AVERAGING 100 POUNDS EACH AND WE GET 500 BILLION POUNDS OF WATER THE USE TO FILL LAKES, STREAMS, RESERVIORS, OCEANS, ETC!" "RECORD DROUGHTS CAUSED BY RECORD POPULATIONS CAUSE RECORD HOT AND COLD TEMPERATURES, ETC! WORLD POPULATIONS CAUSE WATER IN THE EARTH TO DROP.. LESS WATER IN THE EARTH, CAUSES THE WATER TO EVENTUALLY BOIL THIS IS WHAT CAUSES UWR [OUR] VOLCANOS AND EARTHQUAKES!!"
From the early 60's he advocated eating natural foods, banning gambling, banning tobacco and alcohol in public places and replacing the monetary system with "volunteerism". He is also a staunch atheist who sees religion as superstition, and is especially disturbed by condoning of war by religions. "THE FIRST SOMETHING - LYING CALLED "GOD":, NEXT JEWISH, CATHOLIC AND ALL OTHER RELIGIONS .. THEN CAM[E] MICKEY MOUSE, DONALD DUCK, SUPERMAN, ETC. FALSE IDOLS - LYING .. NEXT CAME THE WORLD'S BIGGEST HOAX .. THE NATIONAL DEBT!!"
He cautions:
Beware of majority of world people who seriously pray for you - then the next moment who seriously kill you.
I first found out about Matalik in 1986, through a photocopied flyer taped to a bus stop in Manhattan. It was a montage of self-adhesive type, handwritten additions, a diagram of the earth with "URGENT" in the center and several photographs of women's rears being spanked. Soon after I found another flyer, Page #2, at a bus stop on 42nd Street, a couple of blocks from the UN. Both flyers address the reader "WORLD BRAINWASH THIS". Page #2 begins in handwriting:
