    The series will feature a diverse group of writers including poets, novelists and critical theorists. Readings are on Fridays, listed below, and begin at 7:00 PM, with a reception to follow. A $5.00 donation is suggested.

    February 9 Linda Nochlin explores the intersection of self and history through her poetry. She is the Lila Acheson Wallace Professor of Modern Art at New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts. She has received various honors, including a Guggenheim Fellowship and a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship. Poem and Bio


    February 16Eileen Myles transcribes the scratchy and poetic conditions of female experience in her writing. Myles is a frequent contributor to Bookforum, Art in America, The Village Voice, The Nation, The Stranger and Nest. Her new novel, Cool for You, is published by Soft Skull Press. Bio


    March 16Peter Chametzky creates a sense of immediacy by integrating his personal experience into his writings on contemporary art and politics. He is Associate Professor of Art History and Head of Academic Programs in the School of Art and Design of Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. Excerpt and Bio


    March 30 Julie Garcia, Tevon Gonzalez, Gael Jean Louis and Nigeria Murphy are young writers and graduates of the School of Visual Arts Liberty Partnership Program, funded through the New York State Education Department. All are currently attending college in New York City.


    April 6Elizabeth Meese creates an interface between critical theory and autobiography in her "family fictions" entitled What the Dreamer Dreams. Professor of English and adjunct professor of women's studies at the University of Alabama, her books include (Sem) Erotics – Theorizing Lesbian: Writing (NYU Press, 1992). Excerpt and Bio


    April 20 R.H. Douglas is a writer, performance artist and storyteller whose writing reflects her experiences as a Caribbean woman living in the US. Her work has appeared in Life Notes – Personal Writing by Black Women (Norton 1992), Patchwork of Dreams – Immigrant Stories (Spirit That Moves Us Press 1993) and many journals. Poems and Bio


    May 4 John Califano is a writer, actor, painter, and musician. He has performed in clubs, feature films, and Off-Broadway productions. His current novel, "Every Mother’s Son" is an autobiographical work-in-progress that examines the dynamics and violent struggles of the Caruso family in 50’s and 60’s Brooklyn.


    May 18Sylvia Parker is the curator for this SOHO20 series. Her work investigates the boundaries of intimacy and individual identity. Her writing has been published in Art and Academe and the British Webzine, Snakeskin. Her photography exhibitions have been reviewed in The Village Voice and Art Papers. Poem and Bio
